Kinwei KW-P4 PMP: no buttons, no labels

We’ve seen some dramatically pared down interfaces on portable media devices before, but this PMP from China’s Kinwei takes minimalism to a whole new level. In a sharp departure from the usual DIGITAL SOUND PROCESSING label overload, the KW-P4 instead features a virtually unmarked touchpad below its 2.4-inch screen. Format support for the 2GB player is the usual mix of the standard and obscure, with MP3 and WMA audio support bracketed by “MTV” and “AWV” video formats, and you’re also getting an FM tuner, ebook reader, and games built in. Of course, it’s not at all clear how to actually use this thing, but at least it’s calming, no?

Leopard: will it blend?

It’s not enough to have your Leopard questions answered, to hear all about what the new system is like, or to know that it’ll run on your nearly decade-old Mac. Now it’s time for the Mac fanboys and Apple early adopters to put the latest version of OS X to the test. We want to know, will it blend? In other words:

Go ahead, cry into the comfy pillow that is our comments. Tell us what’s not working so that others may benefit from your knowledge. We’re all here for you. Us? Well, already we’ve had to give up a few applications that weren’t compatible (RapidoWrite and Onyx, to name a couple), and we’ve seen Time Machine crash enough to give Doc Brown an aneurysm, but how are things on your end?

P.S. -PCs, please sit this one out. The Macs are on a mission, and you already had your chance to whine with your brethren in a (relatively) fanboy-free environment.

    YouTube getting a redesign

    YouTube Screenshot

The team over at YouTube seem to be cooking up a redesign for their ever-popular site. As you can see above, the supposed design seems to be red-heavy when compared to the current layout, using hues of gray and blue, this is a big overhaul.

Though quite a bit hard on the eyes, the new design is much more intuitive and easy to navigate. While before you had to click through the separate Videos, Categories, Channels, and Community tabs, you can now simply hover those aforementioned labels to find what you’re after. This seems much more intuitive, though I find the search is a quicker way to find videos (that and Digg ;-)

The site is still in “Preview” (guess they didn’t want to say Beta), so lots of improvements will still be made.

WMF 1 brews one cup of coffee with style

WMF 1 Coffee Pad brews one cup of coffee at a time, in styleThe WMF 1 Coffee Pad is able to brew a single cup of coffee with a simple press of the only button on the machine. It comes with it’s own cup that integrates snuggly into the design and the tray is filled with a standard-sized coffee pad. Within a minute of pressing the button it will deliver a single freshly brewed cup.

There are of course a number of products on the market that can brew a single cup of coffee, or even two at a time but we’ve seen few that can match the simplistic style of the WMF 1. The coffee machine has even won a red dot award for its design at the Design Center of North Rhine-Westphalia this year.

The WMF 1 Coffee Pad goes for about for 139 Euros (about $198) and is currently only available in Europe (compatible with their 220-volt power outlets) and comes in colors of green, yellow, red and gray.
