Hasselblad discontinues the H2 product line

Filed under:

We don’t foresee too many tears being shed over this news, but the Hasselblad faithful will probably want to know that the tried and true H2 product line has been nixed. Not surprisingly, the company reported that “demand simply no longer justified the dedicated manufacturing line required for its production,” and that it would be shifting those resources to the H3DII. On a more positive note, the outfit is introducing the H2F, which is being billed as a “greatly simplified film-only version of the H2,” so those (still) sticking with film can look here to get their fix. Lastly, the firm reassured H1 / H2 owners that it would continue to support those products “for a minimum of 10 years from the date of purchase.” So long, H2, it’s been a good run.

NBC pulls clips from YouTube, makes way for Hulu

NBC pulls its video clips from YouTube to gear up for the launch of HuluGet ready for the launch of Hulu which is expected to take place as a private beta possibly as soon as next week. NBC, who is in a joint venture with Fox to create the online video download site today pulled its video clips from Google’s YouTube site and closed a channel in what was confirmed by an NBC spokesperson as a move to help the launch of Hulu, a new online video site.

Although the new online service doesn’t appear to be a video sharing site, it could be seen as a direct competition for YouTube and having NBC pull its content from YouTube only enforces that idea. However NBC insists that the move is not making a stance against Google, but only to lessen the competition when NBC’s own new video download site launches. According to a YouTube spokesperson, Google and YouTube were informed about the plans as early as Friday.

NBC apparently has some strong confidence in the adage that “content is king”. Along with this move they have also recently pulled their online video content from iTunes in favor of Amazon’s Unbox and had announced the launch of their own free download service of television episodes on NBC Direct in hopes that users will follow the videos and not the service that provides it.

  • Canon Snap: A tiny “ring style” digital camera

    Canon TinyCam

Canon has a new concept camera, the Canon Snap. Still just an idea and not an official product but its one that could be pretty fun to use. Sure it may be a perfect tool for those would be stalkers, but it would also be nice for the average person who just wants to be able to get some cool pictures without having a full featured and full sized camera. The Snap is designed to be worn on the index finger and offers “high quality” pictures with just a single button. Normally I would not be that excited by a camera with this form facture, assuming that it would provide very little useful or quality photos but from Canon it seems to have a little more chance of success.

Dell’s XPS One leaked: watch out, Gateway

    Filed under:

You all laugh at us for religiously trawling the FCC site during our rare free moments, and yet every once in awhile those countless hours of tedium pay off big time: meet Dell’s unannounced all-in-one XPS One. What we’re seeing here is a 22-inch WSXGA (1,680 x 1,050) display flanked by stereo speakers (with media buttons running up one side), topped off by a webcam, and featuring a slot-loading Blu-ray burner along the right bezel. On the inside we’ve got a number of processor options from Intel (the FCC test unit had a 2.66GHz E6750 Core 2 Duo), integrated or ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 graphics, up to 4GB of RAM, four-flavor WiFi plus Bluetooth, and the usual slew of connectors including S/PDIF and a proprietary port for an optional breakout TV dongle. Input comes via the included wireless mouse and keyboard, and Dell’s also loaded up a memory card reader, making for quite the capable multimedia PC. We’d expect this desktop to be priced well above the recent Gateway model with which it shares a moniker — which isn’t such a big deal, really, as $2,000+ price tags have never really stopped XPS customers before. For all the angles, make sure to hit up the gallery below…

Linksys ships the WRT600N router and WPC600N notebook adapter

    Filed under:

It’s been almost a year since we first peeped the Linksys WRT600N, and although the company missed that estimated CES ship date, it’s finally released the ominous-looking box for an MSRP of $279. As hinted by the model number, the router features 802.11n, but implements it simultaneously over both the 2.4 and 5GHz frequency bands, which should result in smoother connections for devices that support 5GHz. You’re also looking at four Gigabit Ethernet ports, built-in FTP and UPnP A/V servers, and Storage Link, which lets you turn any USB storage device into a NAS. Linksys is also touting its Easy Link Advisor setup software, which we’re certain most of you will never open. Connecting to this bad boy is the $99 WPC600N PC Card, which features the same Broadcom Intensi-Fi chipset as the 600N router. Both router and card should be in stores now, according to Linksys, with ExpressCard and USB adapters shipping in the first quarter of 2008.
