Hori Ace Combat joystick for Xbox 360 on display

Blink and you might have missed it: at Tokyo Game Show Microsoft is showing off the Hori Ace Combat joysticks that were announced a couple of months ago for the Xbox 360. They still aren’t available until November 1st overseas (and who knows when the US will get ‘em), but there’s nothing that manages to excite us like glass-encased $150 video game flight sticks that use old school parallel serial connections. Steve Wozniak engaged to Kathy Griffin?

Filed under:

We wouldn’t bet the farm on this being true — after all, it’s a celebrity rumor — but Us Magazine has it that Apple’s Steve Wozniak may be engaged to loudmouth Kathy Griffin. Apparently, Kathy was spotted rocking “what appeared to be an engagement ring” at the Emmys, and when questioned about it, she simply stated that she doesn’t “kiss and tell.” Of course, Kathy has made known that the two are in some sort of relationship, but whether she’s well on her way to becoming Woz’s wife (or if she’s the elusive genius behind Apple’s next cash cow) remains to be seen.

Speculation: iPhone to Add Multimedia, Instant Messaging?

textmessage.png
MacApper’s Jordan Golson received a very peculiar text message from AT&T on his iPhone. The message read:

AT&T FREE Msg: Good News, your messaging package now includes text, picture & instant messages all for the same price of $19.99 per month. No action required

He is obviously currently on a text messaging plan, but AT&T is now apparently rolling a picture and IM plan, integrated into the existing plan. Note that Jordan is on a Go-Phone (pay-as-you-go) plan.

Oh, one problem: the iPhone doesn’t currently support MMS and doesn’t have a native IM client. Does this foreshadow an update to the iPhone firmware, bringing these features to the device?

I hope that the IM client is a “MobileiChat” of sorts, giving those who don’t want to jailbreak their iPhone a viable IM client. Picture messaging is big; who wants to take a picture, bring up Photos > Camera Roll, click Email, and punch in an email address every time?

Stay tuned to us and our sister site, Appletell, for more iPhone news as it happens.

Sony PSP 1-SEG digital TV tuner hands-on

Just launched in Japan, Sony’s got high hopes for its 1-SEG digital TV tuner — and with over seven million Japanese PSPs now capable of viewing high quality video over the air (complete with EPG), we can’t blame Sony for it’s optimism. The only way you’ll get one of these, though, is if you pack your sorry self up and move on overseas — or find a way to set up a pirate 1-SEG cell, anyway. It’ll might just be worth it though, the whole mobile TV experience we saw on this tuner was pretty smooth, with near-instant channel changes and that slick guide, to boot.

Sony’s Home not ready this fall

Sony Home online social gaming network is behind schedule and is now planned for Spring 2008The PlayStation 3 needs a killer game. Fighting with low sales (Nintendo’s Wii currently sells more units than the PS3) and increased competition from Microsoft (”Halo 3″ is easily the biggest game for the fall/holiday season) Sony had been hoping that its “Home” social gaming network would be ready for the fall and generate some needed excitement amongst gamers. Unfortunately for Sony “Home” isn’t ready for a Q3 launch and has been moved back now for a spring 2008 debut so that it can “improve product quality.” Citing the need to make environments that fulfill the needs of America, European and Asian gamers, Sony chief executive Kazuo Hirai said “We aim to launch this as something that can meet expectations of people all over the world.”

“Home” is a 3D interactive environment that is supposed to resemble a virtual house. Sony gamers can purchase clothing and furniture, invite other people over and chat or game with them. Summed up it’s “Second Life” for your PlayStation 3. Whether “Home” would be the much-needed shot in the arm that Sony needs to revitalize sales of the PS3 or a hyped dud is yet to be discovered but the electronics titan is marching ahead regardless of the outcome. It’s bought Evolution Studios, the makers of the best-selling PS3 game “MotorStorm”. Sony is also forecasting shipments of 11 million PS3s by the end of its current fiscal year in March 2008. Currently the company has shipped (not sold) over 5.5 million PS3s.

New printer makes it easy to source manufacturing (and techs too)

Multi-Language Printer
Printers usually only print out whatever language is on the Word program you use, but this new printer allows you to print out in a few Asian languages.

Let’s say you have a Japanese document, you can scan it in, and the Fuji Xerox printer can then re-print it in either English, Chinese, or Korean. Digital Tokyo World had this to say about how this unique printer can print in a few different languages:

“Fuji Xerox’s secret lies in networking the unnamed copier to a dedicated translation server and combining this with algorithms that can distinguish between text, drawings and lines for maintaining page layouts.”

As of now, this printer is only a prototype, so there is no word on price or when it is scheduled to be ready.  I’m sure there will be many people who have been waiting for this type of a printer.
