GPS and mapping might be ubiquitous now, but all those cute little devices still need to get their data from somewhere, and Magellan’s got the answer for the pro-level GIS user with their MobileMapper CX GPS. The WiFi and Bluetooth-enabled CX can interface with remote databases, connect to other units, and even browse the web, while the phone-inspired interface lets mapmakers and surveyors log data one-handed. The CX runs an open version of WinCE 5.0, which Magellan touts as being easy to develop for, and features SD expansion for those data-intensive field excursions. No word on pricing or availability, but we’re certain the five of you who need this thing are already on the phone — or driving to the nearest reseller in your crazy map-cars.

At the IFA, Toshiba introduced a very weird looking keyboard, they claim is great for playing online games. However, this keyboard can only play games, since it has only 55 keys in total which is a lot less than a standard keyboard. It would be very hard to do any real work on the computer, such as typing. With its 55 keys, it is a very compact, and ergonomic keyboard designed for games where you need quick access to some keys, yet where you have limited communication.
You connect this keyboard up via USB port. There is no word on price or availability. This keyboard looks to be one of those that are either very good for some games or very bad for others.

Apple has announced the iTunes Music Store where users have the ability to access without the use of a computer but directly onto their iPod Touch or iPhone over a Wi-Fi network. The pricing and availability of tracks will be the same as the desktop version’s iTunes Store. Users can transfer their purchased downloads to their computers’ iTunes library upon the next sync. Besides this, iTunes users will also be able to create ringtones with the cost of 99 cents per 30 second track. Both features will be available later of this month.

The Apple iPhone is one of the most hyped and expected technological breakthrough in the entire history of the technological revolution. Introduced at the beginning of 2007, it immediately became one of the most popular electronic devices in recent history. It offers not only cell-phone capability with text messaging, but a way to listen to music, watch videos and movies, and play games. With just the touch of a button you can acquire any and all of these media. The cellular phone is no longer just a phone, but a multimedia device with remarkable capabilities.
But its definitely not perfect. As with other devices, it needs the right software downloads for it to function to its optimal capability. With the thousands of software that pops-up in the internet, iPhone owners need to ask these questions:
-What iPhone downloads are the best?
-Is a particular download compatible to my iPhone setup?
-Is the iPhone downloads worth the price?
-Is there a 100% satisfaction guarantee?
With these in mind, Consumer Rated put some popular iPhone download software to the test. Consumer Rated purchased and tested a variety of iPhone downloads such as movies, games, music, video converters, wallpapers, and software from several different Internet companies. They discovered that many of these companies’ software were unusable and not at all compatible with iPhones. In one case, the iPhone download disrupted the normal iPhone functions and eventually caused the iPhone to “die”!
So, for those iPhone owners, be careful! Always be wary of the software that you are downloading for you phone. For the complete guide, visit Consumer Rated at their website.

We can’t say we’re surprised, but Griffin sure isn’t messing around with this iPod accessory business. The company just announced a whole slew of cases for protecting your new iPod touch, classic or nano from the elements and your greasy fingerprints. Of course, no real surprises in the lineup, but we have to admit that “Reflect” case pictured above is a bit of a looker. Griffin should be shipping its new line, which ranges in price from $20 to $35, this October.

Rumors have again surfaced concerning the HTC-produced Google Phone. Even though its just a rumor, its still a juicy piece of information that would keep some people on their toes. The Boston Globe has come across some rather interesting Google Phone details that will make you salivate until the search engine giant decides to release some sort of official statement.
First of all, the proposed Google Phone will not be running on Windows Mobile like other HTC products before it. Instead the operating system will be a mobile variant of Linux, same as that with Motorola Phones. Of course, it will be capable of running a Java Virtual Machine. Next, the applications on the Google Phone will all be Java-based - including the music/video player. Third, it will include a search box made with Java. Fourth, its web browser is, you guessed it, Java. And lastly, there was initially one prototype, but since then the mobile OS has been seen running on between 3 and 5 devices, all of which rock the QWERTY.

It seems that well-known companies are attempting to compete with Apple’s very popular iTunes by launching their own online DRM-free music stores. A little over a week ago, we have seen Wal-Mart begin to sell DRM-free music. Now, it seems that Amazon has jumped onto the online music selling bandwagon and are beginning to create their online music service.
Users can expect the music store to be available sometime in mid-September. They are set to sell MP3 formatted music but no word on price. However, if they wish to propose a real threat on iTunes or even Wal-Mart for that matter, they better not sell any music over 99 cents per song. iTunes doesn’t look as if it’s about to fade from being number 1, but it’s a good attempt from other companies to fight back at iTunes.
